It is with great excitement and pride that we display 'Mura Yerrabi Nguru' (2016), on our vehicles, in this visible way we want to connect people with Ngunnawal culture.

Lynnice Letty Church THE ARTIST

Lynnice Letty Church is named after her grandmother Letty Little nee Bell, a beautiful Ngunnawal woman who inspires Lynnice to paint. Lynnice is a very proud Ngunnawal, Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi woman and has grown up in Canberra for much of her life. She has two children and a partner who is a Barkindji man from Wilcannia.

Lynnice has family connections that extend across Ngunnawal country (Canberra, Yass, Pudmans and Blakeney Creek), Wiradjuri Country (Tumut, Brungle Mission, Wagga, Cowra, and Narrandera to Gilgandra) and Kamilaroi Country (Walgett). Lynnice is passionate about her culture, people and land, and has always felt a strong spiritual connection and belonging to her home.

STORY

The painting tells a story of connection for individuals, families and communities.

Connection can mean many things including connection with country, place, people and community.

The tracks leading to the campsite depicted in the art are symbolic of the ways in which people travel over country, each with their own purpose for the journey.

The individual circles are symbolic of individual camps (homes and communities) that make up our suburbs. Our broader Canberra community is made up of many individuals that make up their own unique family, social and community group. The travel of people to different places may be for business, work, social and recreational activities. It’s the journey that creates opportunities to come together and connect with places and people. It’s an ancient practice that extends beyond time.

The title of the painting is Mura Yerrabi Nguru meaning walk the pathway to the camp.

A message from the Dr Steve Burroughs Foundation

I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you, not only for your continued support through Capital Linen Service but for the difference you personally help make in the lives of Aboriginal families across regional New South Wales.

Last week, one of our Aboriginal supporters and volunteers distributed clothing and linen supplied by your team in the Parkes region. Mandy, our dear friend and volunteer, works tirelessly across two programs; Lifestyle, caring for Aboriginal children from newborn to eighteen years in foster care (around seventy in total), and Second Bite, which helps families doing it tough.

When she gathered the Second Bite community to share the bundles of clothing and linen, all beautifully folded and bundled thanks to my friends at Canberra City Care, she shared a story that deeply moved me, therefore, I am sharing you along with a couple pictures.

Among those who came was an Aboriginal man, a quiet and humble father supporting seven children and extended family. He was hesitant at first, unsure of what was being offered. When he saw the towels and sheets, his eyes lit up. As they spoke, Mandy learned he only had two towels in the entire household, shared among all the children. She immediately gave him several bundles. He thanked her - not once, but seven or eight times, before leaving with a smile that, in her words, "lit up the day."  That man now has a towel for every child. But it's not just about the towels. It's about restoring dignity, respect, and pride to a father who can now care for his family with warmth and decency. It's about preventing illnesses like scabies, yes - but more than that, it's about giving back hope.

This is the ripple effect of your generosity and that of Capital Linen Service. These moments remind me exactly why I get up every morning and keep going, why we do this work together, again and again.

Please pass along my heartfelt thanks to your leadership and team. What you provide goes far beyond fabric and thread, it weaves compassion, dignity, and care into the very fabric of our communities.

With deepest appreciation and respect,
Dr Steve Burroughs Benefactor/Chair
